After a brief flirtation with 2 wheeled "Diamondback" locomotation at Uni, I settled on taxi as the student transport of choice. My first proper mountain bike was a Specialized Rockhopper, which got a hammering, but as predicted by Dave, it wasn't the best £500 spent, because sure enough, within 6 months I was hankering after a full-suss. The Rockhopper is currently introducing Burdy to mountainbiking.
The Stumpjumper FSR that replaced it was a medium brown anodized was an S-works built up for me by Biketreks of Ambleside in 2006. S-works simply because they'd run out of mediums in any other colour by the time I made my mind up. A bonus as it turns out... brown doesnt need cleaning nearly so often.
Build up was completed JUST in time for a debut outing to Morzine in the French Alps (I picked up the bike en-route to the ferry port). The first trail ridden after the trip down to the cable-car in the morning, was the downhill world cup course. Ouch.
Our bespoke shed was emptied of all our mountain bikes by some scum in late 2010 but thanks to household insurance our bikes were to be replaced. After a long time trying to balance what we wanted vs what we needed, I replaced my stumpjumper with... you guessed it: another Stumpy!
This one is an ex-demo from a "concept store" as a result it was cheaper, with less garish decals although it is red! Its slightly worn but was still 4 years younger than the last one, with slightly longer travel and better suspension design. After a few swapped components, an uppy-downer seat post and some trail hammering its starting to feel like its my bike!
